I relocated to this small town in Kansas January 1, 2010 to start life as a recent graduate and be near my love. I took the biggest risk of my life and moved into a vintage loft above a store on Main Street, sight unseen, with a friend of mine (who I had only met once). Let me tell you. This apartment has charm to spare, unfortunately, however, it also has problems to spare. After we got married, in June 2010, Doug moved into the vintage apartment. Doing small projects, we made it “ours” for 15 months. In September of this year we made the move from rented apartment to rented house.
About the rental house… my in-laws are our landlords and this has not put any stress on family relations so far. Before moving in major work had to be done because the house had sat vacant for a number of months and was downright filthy on the inside. After 10 gallons of paint and countless man-hours of hard work, the house was spic and span and livable. We have lived here since late September.
When I started college, I wanted to major in Interior Design. I changed my mind several times and ended up pursuing International Relations. I still remember my first love, and while my current job addresses neither of these interests, I let my imagination run free in my personal environment. I follow a number of blogs (see my partial list below) and get never-ending inspiration for making our place great.
Travel
The travel part of my journal began in summer 2009 as my travel log, to chronicle my times spent in Morocco (and Rome and Paris) those seven weeks. Sadly, I haven’t crossed into any foreign countries since I’ve returned from my most grand and faraway adventure, but travel, and the way it impacts those preparing to, or returning from, different places is still a passion of mine. I hope to recount many more adventures here and welcome any story submissions on how travel has changed you!
