Hooray for Internet TV!

Being the cable-less family that we are, I don’t have access to HGTV the way I used to when I was living with my parents. So, I was really sad when I couldn’t see the Secrets From A Stylist premiere last Saturday, but thanks to the magic of the internet, I got to watch it this afternoon (instead of working on my picture hanging project in the dining room)!

Photo schlooped (yeah, it’s a new word) from Emily Henderson’s Blog and taken by Laure Joliet.

I absolutely love this blue and yellow color combo. It’s perfectly vintage and comfortable looking, without screaming “I got all my furniture at goodwill!” (I think that at times, regardless of how hard I try, my living room screams that statement. Working on it.

Unfortunately, it took me like an hour to watch a 30 minute show due to HGTV’s bad buffering (I’m blaming it on their site because Hulu doesn’t seem to have as bad of a problem).

I love Emily’s quirky personality and dedication to using vintage pieces. What better way to help the planet than to avoid buying newly manufactured goods? Anyway, she makes me totally jealous that going to the Rose Bowl flea market is part of her job description. Gotta find me some good vintage furniture stores around these parts.

What did you think of the premiere?

My Cooking Playlist

My iPod came up with the greatest shuffle mix Wednesday night while I was cooking.

What was I making? Creole chicken and red beans and rice, but that’s not important. :)

Life on Mars – Seu Jorge (cover)
No One’s Gonna Love you Like Me – Cee-Lo Green (cover)
Je Veux Vivre – Faudel (French)
Untitled 1 – Keane
Strawberry Swing – Coldplay
L.S.F. (Lost Souls Forever) – Kasabian
Sleeping Winter Fool – Kat Jones
Big River – Johnny Cash
Hong Kong Garden – Siouxsie & The Banshees

Click here for a playlist I made on youtube (you can make sure play all is checked and open it in a new tab and keep on keepin’ on).  The Kat Jones song isn’t on it because her song isn’t on youtube :(

Speaking of red beans and rice (were we?) I’m making another great Louisiana-style dish for Oscar night this Sunday! True Grit(s)! A collective groan would be appropriate here. Okay, that’s what I’m calling them on Sunday. The other 364 days I’ll call them by their proper name, Shrimp ‘n’ Grits. I’ll let you know how they go over, and if you wanna try it yourself, here’s the recipe on cookstr!  I’m doubling it, nixing the jalapeños, and subbing in milk for heavy cream (probably).

If you were going to make a dish inspired by one of this year’s Oscar-nominated films, what would you make?

Backyard Dreaming

Today I stumbled upon this while checking out my blog subscriptions on Google Reader (which I love, by the way, and this is a total plug to start using it and make sure to subscribe to MFS on it).

Click on the image above to get to the flickr stream for snailtrail.co.uk. They have way more cool stuff!

Usually when I scroll through my feeds, especially if it’s from tumblr or apartment therapy, there are just so many photos I glance at each one and appreciate the room/nook/space featured in each… but this one just grabbed me and I stared at it for a while.

How incredible would it be to have something like this installed in the backyard?

What I have pictured is a small bungalow home with a fairly decent sized backyard. The back door opens onto a brick patio, at one end a camper like this is parked. The other part of the yard is a small grass area. Especially if the house is small, this could essentially function as another room in good weather. I can picture myself reading, snacking, and inevitably napping in there with the door and windows open.

Sadly, nothing cool is coming up today on ebay in this area. A girl will have to keep dreaming….
