Head to the ATM…

…because it’s officially garage sale season and I’ve never seen someone take credit or debit in their front yard. So get your cash ready.

Last weekend we went to a neighboring town’s city-wide garage sale, and aside from snagging a fairly large Coleman cooler for $5 and some infant clothes for our friend who’s expecting, we didn’t come away with much. However, before that we’d stopped at a garage sale our alma mater was holding at the storage building and I almost got a huge metal and wood office desk for $2. Would have been a steal but we have no place for it right now and we don’t want to carry it up the stairs. I did, however spend my $2 on this little beauty:

Gray is the “it” color right now and in our next place I want to do all the walls cohesively in shades of gray. I’m so excited about the color of this little utility cart and how great it looks as a side-table. Just think, people spend hundreds of dollars to get this look, and I got it for 2! It’s now between the two brown rocking armchairs on the far wall of the living room. The table that was there before, that Doug’s brother built (he has some mad skills!) has migrated it’s way to the kitchen.

I know it’s hardly original at this point, but how great does that gray look with the yellow wall color?

Seriously, I’m in love. I can’t stop staring at it while I write.

Cabin Fever: Rearranging Furniture

Three posts in one day? You guys are going to think something’s wrong with me. Getting an unexpected day off of work was just what I needed–it gave me a little jolt of energy which has made me super-productive (more on that tomorrow…)

By now I think you all know what my living room is like (if not, check it out here). The room has been set up in the same way (more or less) since the week I moved in, 13 months ago. I have rearranged it a few times, been unhappy with the results, and put it back. This time I’m going to leave it for a few days to get to know the “feel.”

One of the differences between this rearrangement and previous rearrangements is the new tan and green rug my mom generously purchased for us last November. It really helps anchor the room, even at the wacky angle I’m currently testing out.

I moved the pink circle rug in from the office to help offset the empty floor I unearthed by moving the couch and sofa table. The only problem with this is that I don’t have a rug pad under it, so it slides every-which-way quite easily.

Please ignore the window. I know by saying this, it’ll draw more attention toward the window, but c’est la vie. Let me explain the weirdness, then: the towels are strategically placed to keep the snow out (no joke)!

I sort of feel like this arrangement downplays the dark green bathroom door. The old layout left more room to get to the bathroom (not that it’s difficult to get over there now–it’s fine), but since the door was directly across from the entertainment center with little in between the two visually, it made it more noticeable.

“Inside” the seating arrangement, I feel like there’s just as much room as before, but “outside” the seating area (ie, from the front door) I feel like the whole room looks bigger.

What do you think? Love it, or put it back to the way it was?

The Big [Living Room] Tour

As part of my effort to get the whole apartment properly documented for my home tour page, I got myself all psyched up this week about my living room–the room I’m proudest of in the whole place. I hope I got you psyched up too, because I really want positive affirmation questions or comments below.  Earlier this week I put you in my Delorean and sent you back a year so you can see where I started. As I said before, a lot of things are the same as they were back then (furniture layout mostly) because it works, and I like it. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?

Unfortunately in this apartment more things are broken than not. But more on that another time…

For now, it’s picture time. The moment you’ve all been waiting for. The moment I’ve been tidying up my living room all week for.  Because I’m running out the door for work (great time management, Stace) I have put it in slideshow format. If you’re curious about anything be sure to put it in the comments and I WILL answer it!

[Off topic. If that Delorean on ebay is only 9k, WHY don’t I own it?!?!]
