I’m Around

I suppose since Monday has swung around again, I should offer an account to what I’ve been up to, since I clearly haven’t been blogging…

millennium trilogy covers

Last week I read the last two books in this Millenium trilogy… in like two days each, despite their heftiness. I was so drawn in that I couldn’t put them down! I stayed up until 2AM reading on a few occasions, then slept in extra late to make up for it. Now my body clock is all out of whack, but that’s neither here nor there. Normally I’m drawn to memoirs or historical fiction but with these thrillers I made an exception–okay, well I’m a sucker for conspiracy theories so I suppose these fit the bill in that regard. I highly recommend them, especially in comparison to the dearth of good action movies in theaters these days. I have to give a caveat that there are some graphic scenes and if you don’t like strong language, you may be put off.

As a feminist, the themes of men vs. women, stereotyping women, and women as victims all gave me a lot to think about.

I’ve been working, as usual, meeting some new people, and hanging out with friends. You know, the usual, but not necessarily blog-worthy. I did see Jurassic Park for the first time though, in 3D, and wow! That movie is intense!! I can’t imagine how my peers all saw it in elementary school! I jumped several times, and was very impressed by the special effects! I can appreciate a good CGI monster, but animatronic ones really blow me away more for some reason!

Hopefully the mac will be repaired by the end of the week (it’s expensive, so we couldn’t get it done right when it broke) so I can get back into the swing of things!

What have you been up to, friends?

A Little of This, A Little of That

Today is devoted to rearranging the apartment to accommodate our new couch and new dining table. Then I head off to work this afternoon! The place certainly isn’t ready for a big reveal yet… it’s still crazytown in here, so instead I rounded up a few links I thought you’d enjoy.

Married To A...

First, I was so pleased to do another guest post for Alyssa at All Things Beautiful. As part of her “Married to A…” series, I wrote about when I discovered I was married to a sports fanatic and how I adapted myself to it. In writing it, I realized how far I’ve come! Now I really embrace a variety of sports. I’m so excited for March Madness to get going!

Second… is it weird to say I’ve been waiting for a proper home tour of blogger Jordan Ferney’s apartment for AGES? Basically, when she moved back from France and into a 500 square foot apartment in San Francisco I was desperate to know HOW they made it work (for a family of four!!) and see what it looked like. My patience finally paid off! Click the link to see the tour over at A Cup of Jo.

Etsy Treasury

Third, I have really gotten into learning more and more about kitchenware, past and future. My job at SLT keeps me up to date on the newest kitchen products, and shopping thrift stores and estate sales, and browsing Etsy has proved to be a fun way to look into the past. I would love my kitchen to be filled with rustic, warm pieces, comforting mid-century pieces, and the newest technology in cookware. Building my dream kitchen is a journey I’m enjoying! Last night I curated an Etsy treasury filled with old-school kitchen equipment.

Other treasuries I’ve loved: Get Fit, Rain Rain, and Figgjo Flint Norway. I recently discovered vintage Figgjo and now I’m hooked! Dare I say I like their patterns more than Pyrex?

Lastly, I had a conversation yesterday with a couple friends about instagram, twitter, and micro-blogging. Yes, micro-blogging is a real thing! I peeking into my favorite bloggers’ everyday lives. Do you follow me? @myfriendstaci on both sites.

Have a great Wednesday, all!

Six Months In

Well, it’s official! As of yesterday Doug and I have lived here in San Diego for six months, already! To be honest it’s hard for me to believe because it feels like time has raced by. We both found jobs within the first month of living here, we celebrated Christmas at my parents house, hosted his parents and his brother in December, reconnected with many old friends and made some new ones.

Six Months in SD

It has really been a change of pace for us to live here. On the one hand, here in San Diego there are so many interesting places to go, restaurants to try out, and parks to explore… On the other hand, our life-rhythm in McPherson was to log quality time with our close-knit group of friends many times a week, if not nightly. Here our friends are much busier, and much less spontaneous. It has been a lesson in planning-ahead and getting used to seeing our friends more infrequently. I won’t go ahead and say that one style of socializing is better than another, just that it is different.

Of course, we miss the sweet stucco house, our Kansas friends, and Doug’s family which we used to see very regularly, but thanks to his brother’s new iPhone and iPad (seriously, where does an 18 year old get that kind of money) we can easily facetime with them.

All in all, I’d say the laid back lifestyle and the mild weather have really been agreeing with me. We are so happy that we made the decision to move out here!

Follow on Bloglovin

For those of you who read a lot of blogs, you may have heard that Google Reader will be shutting down as of July. I have used Bloglovin as my feed reader for about a year now and I couldn’t be happier! I hope you head on over and give me a follow. If that doesn’t seem like your thing, remember you can always subscribe via e-mail (find that tool to the left of the Bloglovin button).

Lastly…

Macarons

Last Sunday my cousin and I took a macaron making class at Sur La Table! I fulfilled one of my life’s dreams… making French macarons! Now I know why they are so expensive: they are very labor intensive! Check out the photo play-by-play over at her blog Yeah. We Bake. If you have a Sur La Table near you I encourage you to check out their class calendar!
